Marjorie Taylor Greene Shares How Some Republicans Really Feel About Donald Trump When the Cameras Are Off

Marjorie Taylor Greene has revealed how some Republicans changed their behavior around Donald Trump as soon as he won the primary elections in 2024.

Speaking during her 60 Minutes interview on Sunday, Dec. 7, Greene, 51, was asked by Lesley Stahl whether her colleagues were “afraid” of how Trump, 79, would react if they didn’t act a certain way around him.

She then insisted that some of her fellow Republicans in Congress were “terrified to step out of line and get a nasty Truth Social post on them.”

After mentioning the amount of support Trump has among the party in Congress, Stahl asked “Behind the scenes, do they talk differently?”

“Yes … oh, it would shock people,” Greene responded, as Stahl insisted, “Well, let’s shock people.”

Greene said, “I watched many of my colleagues go from making fun of him, making fun of how he talks, making fun of me constantly for supporting him, to when he won the primary in 2024, they all started — excuse my language, Lesley — kissing his ass, and decided to put on a MAGA hat for the first time.”

The White House didn’t immediately respond when contacted by PEOPLE for comment. In a Truth Social post after the interview aired, however, Trump once again called Greene a “traitor” and insulted her as a “Rotten Apple” and a “very dumb person.”

Greene’s conversation with Stahl marked her first sit-down interview since she announced last month that she was planning to resign from Congress in January 2026.

The congresswoman has represented Georgia’s 14th district since January 2021 and been a longtime supporter of Trump’s agenda. However, the two have been at odds in recent months, with Greene openly criticizing some of Trump’s decisions, including his administration’s previous reluctance to release files related to the late convicted sex offender, Jeffrey Epstein.

In November, Trump said Greene had “lost her way” and withdrew his endorsement of her. He also called her a “traitor” the day after she said she was “being contacted by private security firms with warnings for my safety as a hot bed of threats against me are being fueled and egged on by the most powerful man in the world.”

Greene then announced on Nov. 21 that she planned to resign from Congress, effective as of Jan. 5, 2026. She described her treatment from members of her own party as “unfair” and “wrong.”

During her 60 Minutes interview, Greene said that Trump was “furious” with her over her continued support for the release of more files related to Epstein.

Discussing a phone conversation she had with Trump, Greene recalled, “We did talk about the Epstein files, and he was extremely angry at me that I had signed the discharge petition to release the files,” referring to her decision to sign a U.S. House petition pushing the government to release all documents related to Epstein.

After the bill to force the release of the files quickly passed the House and Senate, Trump signed the legislation, despite his previous efforts to stop it. The bill requires the Justice Department to release all documents related to Epstein and information related to the investigation into his 2019 death in a federal prison within 30 days, the Associated Press reported.

“I fully believe those women deserve everything they’re asking,” Greene told Stahl, referring to the victims of Epstein. “They’re asking for all of it to come out. They deserve it. And he was furious with me.”

When Stahl further asked Greene to describe what Trump said, she briefly paused before saying, “He said that it was going to hurt people.”
